This Privacy Policy explains how StocksMarket ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and app at stocksmarket.co.za (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

• Account information — the email address you use to sign up and authenticate.
• Portfolio data — the stocks, holdings, watchlists, and alerts you add to your account.
• Payment information — handled entirely by our payment processor, Paystack. We never see or store your full card details; we only store a subscription reference to manage your plan.
• Usage & device data — basic technical information (such as your browser and pages viewed) needed to operate and secure the Service.

How we use your information

• To provide the Service — showing prices, syncing your portfolio, and running analytics.
• To send you the alerts and notifications you have set up.
• To process subscription payments and manage your plan.
• To secure the Service and prevent abuse.

Service providers

We share limited data with trusted third parties only as needed to run the Service:

• Supabase — database and authentication hosting.
• Vercel — application hosting.
• Paystack — payment processing.
• Resend — sending alert emails.
• Finnhub & Yahoo Finance — market data.
• Anthropic — AI classification of news headlines (we send article text, not your personal data).

We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies & local storage

We use cookies and browser local storage for essential functions only — keeping you signed in and remembering your theme and currency preferences. We do not use advertising trackers.

Data security

Your data is protected in transit with encryption, and access is restricted with row-level security so you can only see your own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal data at any time. Much of this is available directly in your account; for anything else, contact us and we will help. Where applicable law (such as South Africa's POPIA or the GDPR) grants you additional rights, we will honour them.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data, except where we are required to retain limited records (for example, payment records for accounting).

Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
